Nurse Practitioners

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a Registered Nurse (RN) who is licensed by the College of Nurses in the Extended Class.  An NP is an RN who has completed a master’s degree in nursing, and additional advanced university education. This education enables them to work both independently and collaboratively in an advanced practice role with other health care professionals to provide individuals and families with high quality care services.  NPs take care of the physical, emotional, mental, and social aspects of their clients’ health needs.

Nurse Practitioners provide the following services in the London Family Health Team physicians’ practices:
– Assess, diagnose, and treat illnesses and injuries
– Assess and manage individuals with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and dementia
– Perform physical check-ups
– Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as ultrasounds, x-rays, and blood work
– Prescribe medication
– Provide counseling and treatments to assist individuals with lifestyle changes such as weight loss and smoking
– Refer clients to other health care professionals and specialists
